Working with Chiraswa

Picture
hello!  Hari Om,
My name is Chiraswa, and I founded Satyam back in 2016, alongside Paul, my husband.  I have been a yoga teacher for  16 years, and have practising yoga for  around 30 years. I am now  moving my attention to offering 1:1, couple, or small group sessions, both online and in-person (at Satyam or in your home). See below on this page for my bio.

As a teacher and practitioner, my approach is a meditative one, supporting a connection to  present moment awareness, through our body, breath, mental, emotional and energetic fields. My sessions can  be fun and uplifting, getting energy moving and building strength, flexibility and mobility. They can also be deep and slow, where I facilitate a gentle exploration of themes, presence and witnessing awareness. Please get in touch to discuss your needs.

Meditative Yin 1:1

These sessions are deep and exploratory, and curated to support you to  work with specific issues or themes. Having gathered information from you regarding what you  are needing from the session, I will create a session that gives you space to reflect and be held by yin shapes and meditative guidance.

Community Meditation Group

This group will meet weekly, in person, for blocks of sessions. Each session will include  an embodied arrival, with body and breath awareness and perhaps a short breathing practice. There will be a    guided meditation practice, which may involve guidance or silence and will draw on yogic meditation techniques.  There will also be  a facilitated space  - based on Chiraswa's Gestalt Group Facilitation training - for reflection, sharing and discussion. The theme of the group is to explore how yoga and meditation can support  our personal and collective liberation.

£10  per session. I ask for a commitment of 4 weeks.
This group will start soon on a day to be confirmed. Join the waitlist and Chiraswa will let you know when we are ready to begin.

About Me

Chiraswa has been a dedicated yogini for almost 30 years, and has been teaching adults, teens, children and families for 15 years. She is an Experienced Registered Yoga teacher (E-RYT500) with Yoga Alliance. Her focus is on the meditative aspects of yoga and her classes blend traditional yoga asana, creative and somatic movement, yin yoga, pranayama, meditation and yoga nidra, woven together in a way that facilitates the experience of connected, embodied presence. Inclusion and accessibility are at the heart of Chiraswa’s teaching and she weaves a trauma-informed practice space that aspires to nourish a sense of embodied presence for all students. She completed her teacher training from 2009 - 2011 with her late teacher Swami Pragyamurti Saraswati, in the tradition of the Bihar School of Yoga (Satyananda Yoga), receiving initiation (diksha), including mantra diksha and a spiritual name (Satya Roopini) from Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati, in 2009. She holds a Diploma in Yoga Teaching from The British Wheel of Yoga.

Chiraswa has qualified in Children & Teen Yoga & Mindfulness (2015) and Yin Yoga (2018). She has a First Class Honours degree in Social Anthropology and The Study of Religions from SOAS (2002), and certificates in Counselling Skills & Therapeutic Approaches to Psychotherapy (2004), Group Facilitation (with the Gestalt Centre, 2025) and Trauma-Informed Practice with the Trauma Centre for Trauma Sensitive Yoga (2024).
She has completed numerous other trainings connected to her role within the Cambridgeshire Local Authority, where she worked in supportive and therapeutic roles with children, young people and their families for many years. Most recently Chiraswa has attended training in Anti-Oppressive Group Facilitation and Politicised Somatics.
Chiraswa has always been interested in critically understanding the world in which we live, and is passionate about radical transformation on a personal and collective level. A couple of years ago, Chiraswa discovered that she is autistic, and her whole life suddenly made sense. She is a queer woman of colour, a mother to two grown-up children, a step-mother and step-grandmother, and is passionate about nature and socialism.

Chiraswa co-founded Satyam Yoga Cambridge with her husband in 2016, which is a community wellbeing centre and registered yoga school in the heart of Cambridge.
