Yoga Teacher Training

Satyam Teacher Training Programme

Satyam Teacher Training Programme

Our 2 year teacher training programme offers a comprehensive yoga education that will take you on a journey of personal and collective knowledge and growth. Drawing on traditional hatha yoga tools, techniques and practices, whilst incorporating some of the recent developments in yoga, such as biomechanics, trauma informed practice and decolonisation, we aspire to nurture teachers who are confident, knowledgeable and self-aware.

The programme is made up of a 4 Month Foundation Programme followed by a 20 Month Teacher Training. All participants of the teacher training programme will need to have attended the foundation course*, however the foundation course can also be attended as a stand alone course, for those wishing to deepen their understanding and experience of yoga.

The course will be accredited with Yoga Alliance and will meet standards for the British Wheel of Yoga 500 hours accreditation.

The Satyam Foundation Programme

2023 Dates: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am - 4pm
March 18/19, April 22/23, May 20/21, June 17/18

This is a 4 month course providing a comprehensive overview of many aspects of yoga: asana, pranayama, yoga nidra and meditation. We also explore some of the theoretical underpinnings of yoga, taken from the Yoga Sutras - a key yogic text that expounds the 8 Limbs of Yoga: yama & niyama (ethical frameworks), asana (physical posture), pranayama (expansion of energy), pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses), dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation) and samadhi (liberation). We will also dip into the Hathayogapradika, another key text which lays out the system of Hatha Yoga.

This programme, consisting of 4 weekend sessions, offers a solid foundation for our teacher training programme. It will provide a good understanding of the style of yoga and meditation that you will be training to teach, plus it will be an opportunity to ensure that both you and we feel that you are a good match for the training programme. All applicants for the teacher training need to have completed the 4 month programme*. The Foundation Programme can also be taken on its own by those simply wishing to deepen their understanding of yoga.

* If you have completed our Awakening to Yoga course, or if you have been attending classes with Jo consistently for at least 2 years, then it may be possible to apply directly for the Teacher Training Programme. Please enquire.

March 2023 - March 2025: Saturdays & Sundays, 10am - 4pm
17 x weekend sessions plus a 3/4 day residential retreat

This 20 month course will provide a comprehensive experience into many aspects of yoga, including asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, yoga nidra, meditation, kriya, karma yoga and bhakti yoga. The aim is for participants to undergo a process of initiation and transformation, through the yogic tools, leading them to a place where they are ready and confident to teach and share the practices with knowledge and integrity.

Rooted in traditional yoga practices, this course pays homage to the Indian Spiritual traditions from which yoga comes, whilst empowering practitioners to discover their own style and ways of holding space.

We will learn about the complex issues being explored within current yoga communities - ensuring that practitioners are equipped to reflect and analyse their role as a yoga teacher in the world today.

Participants will emerge from the training with self-awareness and knowledge, and the highest skill in designing and leading their own yoga classes, courses and workshops.

Self practice (sadhana) forms a fundamental part of this course. You will be expected to have a daily practice throughout the course, which includes a practice of self-enquiry, reflection and learning. You will also need time for reading and studying. In the second year you will set up your own class in the community.

"My purpose is to bring modern Science and Yoga together; to include this millenarian practice into the medical system as a preventive and healthy habit.
Bringing the concept of sustainability into education is also one of my goals; educating bodies and minds and teaching healthy habits for the good of the people as well as the good of the planet."
Plus extra teaching support from Satyam faculty and friends.

The world certainly does not need any more yoga teacher training courses. What the world needs is for its humans to do the work of becoming conscious. Satyam was created to provide a space where people can engage in practices that put them in touch with the core of who they are. Mostly we do this through the rich and deep traditions of yoga. We refer to the practices which are rooted in Indian Spiritual Traditions and we pay great respect to the gifts which these traditions have brought to the world.

We also recognise that in some cases hierarchical guru traditions have led to abuses of power. Through oppressive power dynamics harm has been carried out. This course, whilst deeply honouring the roots of the traditional yoga which we practice and teach, seeks to empower practitioners deeply from within, so that they can connect with their inner power, their true purpose in life and to cultivate unity with their divine essence - this is the aim of yoga.
