Floatation Pool

At Satyam Chesterton

Floatation is an evidence-based method of relaxation and recovery for the mind and body. During a session you will float in our open pool, effortlessly in a warm high density solution of Epsom salts and water, suspended from the stresses of gravity. Our floatation studio is designed to create a calming atmosphere, with low level lighting - or no lighting at all - and soundproof walls, to reduce external stimulus and support the relaxation response.

By facilitating this meditative like state, the synergistic effect of all aspects of the floatation experience leaves the mind to work at its most efficient, allowing physical and mental recovery, deep relaxation and increased well-being on many levels.

Please note our pool is open, with no lid, so the experience is one of spaciousness, whilst maintaining a feeling of containment.

What others have said about floating at Satyam...

"It’s an amazing experience that is almost hard to put into words, but must be experienced oneself... when all the noise, lights and sense of gravity is gone, the only challenge you are left is to silence the mind and let go. When that happens – it’s incredible! Great way to hit the ‘reset’ button for our busy lives and busy minds. Will highly recommend this to everyone who listen to me!"

"Gets better every time I do it. So powerful to give yourself an hour of nothingness – my brain shifts and my body feels so restored. Thank you!"

"Such a beautiful, meditative experience! I lost track of time and place in the best way"

"Amazing experience, never done anything like it before and I found it incredible – just me and no kids – silence (how I missed that!) My body feels so relaxed and my head free of anxiety. Thank you so much"

"Warm, peaceful, dark, free. I felt completely relaxed and singularly myself. My mind could consider my life calmly, processing experience and emotions. Just as i felt I’d been in long enough, the lights came on"

"Very dark, very floaty. Five stars"

Is Floatation Therapy evidence based?
Clinical research investigating Flotation-REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy), although limited, has reported largely beneficial effects across a range of different stress- and pain- related conditions, including: hypertension, chronic tension headaches, chronic muscle tension in the back and neck, and stress-related pain with ‘burnout depression’. Thus far there have been several Flotation-REST studies focused on individuals with clinical anxiety, including generalised anxiety disorder, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder, agoraphobia, and social anxiety, with many patients presenting with comorbid major depressive disorder. The evidence published thus far suggests that Flotation-REST is a safe and effective technique for the rapid reduction of stress, pain and anxiety. Clinical trials are currently underway in America, Germany and Sweden investigating the long-term impact of floating in patients with anxiety disorders, anorexia nervosa, chronic pain, fibromyalgia and insomnia.
